Most of us don’t want to admit that we’re so exhausted during the 1st trimester that physical yoga is pretty much out of the question, or that cravings and aversions are worse than we expected, or that emotionally we're really struggling or that we're scared of the changes we see in our bodies or that we're worried about the birth. This applies to most of us!
We need to focus on being healthy and feeling good – and working with and loving our beautiful new pregnant body!
Increases in blood volume, fatigue, morning (or all-day) sickness including nausea and vomiting, tender, fuller, and heavier breasts, headaches, increased urination, insomnia, vivid dreams, and vague exercise recommendations...
It's no wonder we're discouraged! We start to see and feel all of these changes in our bodies and begin to think “what’s the point of practicing yoga or eating well? I’m getting fat anyway. It’s not worth it.”
I'm sure you hear things like "Just enjoy your pregnancy! You don't need to practice yoga or watch what you eat. You're growing a baby it's ok to get fat!"
But what we're NOT told is that practicing yoga and staying healthy during pregnancy and focusing on good nutrition can actually give you more energy, and can lower rates of gestational diabetes, hypertension, and depression.
More than 75 percent of women aren’t getting enough exercise during pregnancy, and I get it! There aren’t enough resources for us during pregnancy and most of what is available isn't realistic and doesn't make the solution easy-to-follow.

Can I get this programme before I am pregnant?
Of course! We have a lot of women who do this. They read up on the material before getting pregnant. You can certainly do the yoga practices and use the scrummy recipes right now, to help balance your hormones and optimise your health pre-pregnancy.
Can I just buy one trimester instead of all three?
This programme actually includes not 3 but 4 trimesters - that immediate post-partum time is covered too!
Can I do this programme even if I wasn't practising yoga or eating well before I got pregnant?
Absolutely YES! The yoga practices included in this programme are suitable for all levels of yoga practice and fitness levels. There are also 4 weeks of nutritious, hormone-balancing recipes for each month of pregnancy (starting from month 2.) You can continue to follow this plan after birth too, as it's perfect for post-partum recovery breastfeeding. You can choose to practice yoga one, two, three days per week — whichever fits in your schedule and lifestyle the best!
Will this programme be helpful for me if I am overweight?
Yes! My goal is to provide resources and tools for all women during pregnancy. For every woman who goes through our programme, our goal is to give you the tools to have a healthy pregnancy starting with where you are currently at. You can modify your yoga practice depending on your current yoga practice level and given nutrition recommendations. You can also attend a YogaBellies for Pregnancy class too, either locally, or in a live-stream class with one of our Certified YogaBellies Teacher's so they can help your practice on a one-to-one level.
Is yoga while pregnant safe for me and my baby?
It is safe, and in fact, will help with a healthier pregnancy! Many studies have been performed on foetal response to yoga and maternal exercise. They have all conclusively shown that exercise was well tolerated in relation to umbilical artery blood flow, foetal heart rates, and biophysical profiles before and after their yoga practice in both active women and inactive women and their babies. The one exception is that you want to stay away from things like hot yoga or hot Pilates (and avoid hot tubs and saunas) during pregnancy as these high-temperature environments show an association with increased risk of neural tube defects. A YogaBellies for Pregnancy practice, however, does not increase the core body temperature to a concerning level.
Do I need to have an existing yoga practice for this?
Not at all! The yoga practices included are suitable for every stage of pregnancy AND every level of yoga experience. All the exercises can be done at home and you may even just be choosing this programme for the nutrition aspects, or perhaps you are already attending YogaBellies for Pregnancy classes, and you want to practice at home too.
Do you have a programme for new mums after birth too?
We do and it’s launching soon, it’s called The Whole Mother! However, this programme also includes LOTS of bonus material for that essential arrival of baby and getting started with your mum and baby practice.
Can I follow this programme if I have gestational diabetes?
Yes! If you have been diagnosed with gestational diabetes while pregnant, your doctor will work closely with you to get you on an appropriate meal plan or confirm that he’s happy with our provided meal plans. YogaBellies for Pregnancy practice can also help to manage gestational diabetes!
Can I follow this programme if I am pregnant with twins?
Maybe. If you have had clearance from your doctor to practice yoga, then the guidelines in this program will be perfect. You may need to make some adaptations we suggest during the 3rd trimester as your belly grows to make room for those babies, and we recommend you work with a YogaBellies Teacher to do this.
Can I follow this programme if I have had a miscarriage?
If you have experienced a miscarriage in the past, I am so sorry and I know the pain of this process, I’ve been there too. I actually have a podcast I did on this if you’d like to listen here. Listen to your doctor’s guidelines on returning to exercise. Sometimes, women are concerned that exercise during pregnancy will cause a miscarriage in the first trimester. There is no evidence-based research that backs this up. If you are concerned about a miscarriage, talk to your doctor or midwife about it. Exercising during pregnancy is recommended by every major pregnancy organization for most pregnant mamas.
