One of my clients (and a personal friend) was recently going through some really shitty times.
This incredible, beautiful inside & out, and basically awesome woman has had enough self-awareness to remind herself: “No condition is permanent.”
This saying has different iterations…
My fav is “This too shall pass”.
Why I love it is because it reflects innate human wisdom…
On some level, we know too well…
That both good and bad times will be gone in a blink of an eye.
In the grand scheme of things, what is happening to you right now is just not that important.
But, there’s an issue that seems to be built-in to us.
Most of us think that when going gets tough; it will be tough forever.
Now, since you’re reading this email…
You likely have more self-awareness than your average Jane on the street. You’re probably at least a little yogic and have decent self-awareness.
But, be honest with yourself…
This is how you, too (at least partially), think.
Without going crazy yogi on you, I want to share with you a quote that I love by the ancient Chinese strategist Sun Tzu:
“Whether in an advantageous position or a disadvantageous one, the opposite state should be always present to your mind.”
In everyday life, what the hell does that mean?
When you’re at the top of your game (success, recognition, income), you’d be wise to humble yourself and recognize the role of luck in your success so far.
Or …
When life hands you a couple of blows, expand your energy.
Don’t hide; go out and seek challenges! Look for new hero journeys!
Don’t shy away; talk to people. Invest in yourself. Expose yourself more to life instead of shying away.
, I’m curious to learn what you think of this approach?
How do you deal with the dualities of life?
Is there a mantra you repeat about the transient nature of life? Do you think about this and does it help or hinder your anxiety?
Simply reply to this and let me know your thoughts.
