As women, we are cyclical beings. We go through different seasons and phases throughout our lives, and it’s essential that we honor and embrace these cycles. In today’s world, there is often a disconnect between our natural rhythms and the demands of modern life, which can lead to stress, anxiety, and physical health issues. This is why it’s so important for us to bring awareness to and honor our natural seasons and cycles, including our menstrual cycle and the seasons of the year.
At YogaBellies, we understand the importance of living in line with our natural rhythms, and we believe that yoga can be a powerful tool for helping women connect with their bodies and embrace their cycles.
Here are some of the reasons why aligning with your natural seasons and cycles can benefit your overall wellbeing:
Enhances self-awareness: When we live in line with our natural rhythms, we become more aware of our bodies and our needs. We can tune into our energy levels, our emotions, and our physical sensations, which can help us make more informed decisions about our health and wellbeing.
Reduces stress: Living in a way that honors our natural cycles can help reduce stress and anxiety. When we push ourselves to go against our natural rhythms, it can create tension and stress in our bodies and minds. By honoring our natural cycles, we can reduce this tension and allow ourselves to relax and unwind.
Improves overall health: When we live in line with our natural seasons and cycles, we are more likely to make healthy choices that support our bodies and minds. This can lead to improved physical health, mental health, and overall wellbeing.
Supports menstrual health: The menstrual cycle is a natural part of a woman’s life, but it can also be accompanied by discomfort and pain. By honoring our menstrual cycle and making lifestyle choices that support it, we can reduce these symptoms and improve our menstrual health.
Connects us to nature: Living in line with the seasons can help us feel more connected to nature and the world around us. It can help us appreciate the beauty of each season and develop a deeper sense of gratitude for the natural world.
One of the ways we can honor our natural rhythms is by connecting our menstrual cycle to the lunar phases. The lunar cycle is approximately 29.5 days, which is similar to the length of a typical menstrual cycle. By paying attention to the lunar phases, we can gain a deeper understanding of our menstrual cycle and our bodies.
For example, during the new moon, which marks the beginning of the lunar cycle, our energy levels may be lower, and we may feel more introspective. This is similar to the menstrual phase of our cycle when we often experience lower energy levels and a need for rest and reflection. During the full moon, our energy levels may be higher, and we may feel more extroverted. This is similar to the ovulatory phase of our cycle when we often experience higher energy levels and a desire to socialize and connect with others.
By aligning our yoga practice with the lunar phases and our menstrual cycle, we can create a more personalized and supportive practice that honors our unique needs and rhythms. As part of the YogaBellies EMPOWER programmeme and most specifically, the Seasons and Cycles course, we believe that a feminine-centric yoga practice is essential for supporting women’s health. Our teacher training programme is designed to help women connect with their bodies and embrace their natural rhythms so that they can share this knowledge with others.
