If Pregnancy Yoga Is Good Enough For Gwynie, It’s Good Enough For Us

When figuring out what to expect when you’re expecting, pregnancy yoga is a good start.

Not only will yoga strengthen the body physically, which is vital during pregnancy and for labour, but it will also calm the mind.

According to a recent study, yoga reduces the risk of stress during pregnancy, which has been linked with premature birth, low birth weight and developmental problems in young children and even teenagers.

Yoga has long been linked with emotional and physical wellbeing, with Gwyneth Paltrow, Drew Barrymore, Jessica Alba and Sienna Miller are all said to have used the ancient techniques during pregnancy.

With this in mind we’ve teamed up with Yogaat.com bringing expectant mothers an easy-to-follow class to test the waters.

Cheryl MacDonald, founder of YogaBellies which specialises in perinatal yoga and natural birth preparation, says: “Yoga is so much more than just a fitness class; it focuses on the mind, body and soul. When a woman is pregnant, her body undergoes huge changes that are emotionally and physically draining. Perinatal yoga is not only about building strength and stamina for birth or learning effective breathing techniques, but also about bonding with your baby, even in utero, and learning to accept your role as a mother.”
