As a women, you needs change as you age. Sure, you may know of some changes that are obvious, but then there are others that fly completely below the radar- ones that could deteriorate the odds of you living as healthy a life as possible.

However, that’s about to change, as you will find out below. Consider the following your no-frills guideline to living a healthier life.

  1. You Must Do Weight or Body Weight Training

Above all else, you must lift weight whats the best way to do this?? Body weight! Yoga! Women too often shy away from lifting weights, for fear that it will make them look too “buff” or manly. However, this couldn’t be further from the truth. Unless you are using external hormonal shots (which we highly advocate against) your natural body chemistry will not allow you to build that amount of muscle.

It has been found time and time again, that women who use body weight resistance or lift weights or practice some sort of resistance training have greater bone mass density, are less prone to falls, fractures, and also are less likely to develop osteoporosis.

Plus, having strong muscles ensures that you will have a lower than average chance of the aches and pains associated with aging and loss of muscle tissue.

2. You Must Have Sex

Sex does not magically become taboo the second we reach 50, as many women seem to hang up their gloves. No, just like everything else, sex is good for you, and plays a key role in your health.

Having sex promotes release of endorphins, feel good chemicals that have a profound effect on our mental and physical wellbeing.

Endorphins may help ward off depression, and can even cut your risk of high blood pressure. Now- remind me again why not to have sex?

3. You Must Get Screened

The good news? Hopefully as you age you do get wiser, and see the importance of health screening for what it is- a useful tool in the prevention of numerous types of cancer. While cervical cancers occur frequently in younger women, it does not mean that older women are magically exempt.

Keep scheduling your annual pap smear until a point that your doctor is convinced you are not likely to develop it.

Mammograms, on the other hand mandate frequent screening, as you grow older, as the majority of cases tend to occur in older women. Stay on top of your health, and live as fulfilling a life as possible.

4. Eat To Heal

In your younger days, you probably took one too many drinks, or maybe even a cigarette or two. That’s ok. Hopefully you have kicked those bad habits associated with the experimentation age, and have come to respect your body for all that it does. This requires eating to heal.

Consume foods that are bursting with nutritional goodness- meaning a rainbow spectrum of fruits and veggies. Choose slower digesting carbs as well, such as sweet potatoes, and heart healthy meat like fish. This is an excellent recipe that promotes healing, and will pay dividends when you are still around to see your grand and great grandkids tie the knot.

5. Spend More Time Outdoors

We don’t mean to say that you should face the sun head on in the middle of the day, but go out for walks around nature, sensibly. This could mean heading to the park most days, going for a short walk in the woods out back, or just enjoying nature in all its beautiful splendor.

As an added perk, spending time outdoors is associated with lower stress levels, so if the world has you down, leave it to good old Mother Nature.
