Yes, Yes and Yes!! FFS YES!

I taught a workshop on embracing feminine cycles at the weekend and it was sadly no surprise that the majority of women there had no idea where they were in their menstrual cycle, or what that meant with regard to their health right now.

Do we see menstruation as Sacred or Dirty?

Throughout history, menstruation has been seen both as ‘dirty’ and sacred in different cultures. In cultures where the period was seen as sacred, there was a lot of knowledge about how to balance the menstrual cycle with the help of herbs, yoga, and diet. Only recently have we been encouraged to completely ignore menses – to pretend that it’s not happening and that it doesn’t affect us.

A lot of women today view their menstruation at the very best, as a pain the ass. A lot of the time, when we experience menstrual complaints like pain or PMS, this is partly caused by the way we think about menstruation.

Yep, We’re Stressed

It’s no shocker to hear that there is currently an epidemic of stress, anxiety, overwhelm, chronic fatigue, depression, and all kinds of diseases. But to change this as a society, we first need to embrace and acknowledge our intrinsic female cycles.

It’s not ‘mystical’ or difficult to do. It’s about becoming aware of what’s going on in our body throughout the month and learning to ride the hormonal fluctuations and energy peaks and lulls, instead of fighting against them.

Self-Care is Listening To Your Body

We need to connect back to our bodies and emotions and acknowledge and respect what we feel. We can do this by learning how to make use of yoga, diet, and lifestyle changes to support our hormonal health, throughout the month.

We are cyclical beings on a physical, energetic and emotional level. In our society, this cycle is completely ignored. This is the reason why many of us feel overwhelmed, unfulfilled, and stressed out.

We are trapped in a society that doesn’t support our biological female health and this puts our whole hormonal system at risk.

Our linear-based life is the reason we are stuck in survival mode instead of thriving.

Although we might not be able to change the whole system at once, we can start by tracking our own cycles and listening to our body’s needs and adjusting our self-care and yoga practice accordingly. It’s all about working with your body and listening to it, instead of going against it.

Only when you really listen to your body’s needs, you can achieve optimum health and vitality.
