I picked up Pema Chödrön’s book for the first time 5 days ago.
A kind friend gave me her book “When Things Fall Apart” as a thank-you gift…
And I finished it in 3 days.
Would’ve done it sooner, but I was on a SUPER tight schedule.
So I read it in the backseat of a taxi …
In the kitchen while cooking …
Basically, I’d sneak in 5-10 minutes whenever and wherever possible.
As you likely know, Pema Chödrön is one of the most beloved spiritual teachers in the West…
And for a good reason.
Her kindness, down-to-earthiness (I don’t know if that’s even a word? I’m just going to roll with it!), and sense of humor are enticing.
If you’re going through hard times right now…
This book is a soul-saver.
Even if all is peachy in your life at the moment, “When Things Fall Apart” will nourish your heart and mind.
The book reflects Pema’s worldview of a Shambala Buddhist nun…
But honestly, her advice is so applicable to everyday life, regardless of your religious and spiritual beliefs — assuming you have any in the first place!
There’s no sugar-coating either…
“Things falling apart is a kind of testing and also a kind of healing. We think that the point is to pass the test or to overcome the problem, but the truth is that things don’t really get solved.”
And strangely enough, that’s just fine.
Some of the goodness and wisdom she so generously shares with us relates to:
★ Becoming intimate with fear
★ Loving the reality — as it is
★ Letting go of both hope and fear
(I admit — this one was tough for me to grasp!)
And many more.
That’s all I wanted to share with you today.
If you haven’t already, you should think about picking up this one or any of Pema’s other books.
They’ll make you think differently about life …
Especially its so-called hardships.
