A few years ago, I came upon this video of a North Korean defector Yeonmi Park:

(WARNING: get your tissues handy!)

This young girl talked about the brutal regime she grew up under and how she was starving as a child…

Until one day, she decided to risk her life and try to escape North Korea.

She wanted to break free, right?

Well…

According to her, she just wanted to have food.

There’s no word for “freedom” in North Korea.

(Nor is there for romantic love.)

She then talks about the hardships she and her mother endured in China…

Before crossing the bone-chillingly freezing Gobi desert in an attempt to seek refugee status from South Korea.

Yeonmi’s journey is well-documented in her book “In Order To Live,” and there’s plenty on Youtube, so check it out if this is something that interests you.

But the point I wanted to raise is this …

Freedom is something we take for granted in modern society.

Freedom to say what you want, be with the person you want to be with, wear what you want to wear, go where you want to go.

Freedom to do what you want to do.

Freedom to be who you want to be.

Right now, there’s somebody out there in this vast world who would risk everything to have your life.

So, why are you not seeing it as a miracle that it is?

Celebrate it. Enjoy it. Be thankful.

Bless others whenever you can.

This life is a very short ride for all of us.

Why not make every moment count?

Love, Cheryl
