Regular yoga practice helps boost mental clarity, enhance feelings of wellbeing, and keeps the muladhara (root) chakra healthy and is great for keeping you warm, cosy, and grounded in winter months.

Yoga can also help you shed the guilt by balancing your festive indulgences with some dynamic, calorie-burning routines. All the holiday parties, cookies, candies, and treats can pack on the extra pounds, but a dynamic and flowing yoga practice will heat the body, internally and externally, and burn those calories as fast as you can eat them.

To get the most out of your yoga session, make sure you lie on your yoga mat before you begin. Warming up your muscles and joints will boost your circulation, lower your stiffness and cramping, and make you feel better. regular yoga practices are vital for protecting against germs. 

Poses that expand the heart area and rib cage are better for improving circulation. The bridge pose is a simple pose that really opens this area up. Lie on your back and bend your knees. Adjust your feet and arms and then lift the hips. Tuck your chin under and interlace your hands behind your back. Now relax your glutes and engage the inner thighs. Release slowly.

Other options are camel, wheel, and dancer pose.

Yoga helps you open your heart. To experience the winter season in good spirits, take time to practice pranayama. When the body is warm and your thoughts are calm, your emotions will be balanced as well.

Ujjayi breathing is great for warming the body inside and out. It is a steady inhale and exhale always through the nose. You constrict at the back of the throat during the exhale. The constriction creates an “ocean sound” ( a little bit like Darth Vadar)  that warms the body and helps focus the mind.
